KIDDERMINSTER Historical Society is preparing to host a talk focusing on archaeology in Worcestershire.
‘Small Pits, Big Ideas: investigating Worcestershire’s medieval villages’ will be delivered by Nina O’Hare on Thursday, February 22 at 2.30pm.
Meetings are at The Museum of Carpet, Stour Vale Mill, Green Street, and there is a small charge for visitors who are most welcome.
A recent community archaeology project has excavated 96 test pits in six locations across Worcestershire, including at Wolverley and Bewdley.
People will find out what have they revealed about the story of the county’s medieval villages, how they change over time and how the picture relates to elsewhere in England.
The talk shares the highlights and star finds – from a wig curler in Wolverley to prehistoric flints and medieval cooking pots – as well as the overall stories that have emerged.
Nina, community project officer at Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service, ran the project between 2021 and 2023 on behalf of Worcestershire Archaeological Society.
It was awarded Community Archaeology Project of the Year 2023.
