A Kidderminster drama group has announced a major change to its summer show after its older members didn't want to perform the chosen musical.

The youth section of Kidderminster Operatic and Dramatic Society (KODYS), which sees a group of 10 to 18-year-olds perform one musical and one concert a year, had originally planned to stage 'Godspell' in June this year.

The Stephen Schwartz play, which is structured on a series of parables from the Bible, wasn't a popular choice amongst all of the performers, so the group decided to pick a musical that would cater for everyone.

Business manager at Kidderminster Operatic and Dramatic Society, Tom Paine, said: "When we announced Godspell, we starting hearing feedback about some of the older members not wanting to do the show possibly because they haven't heard of it even though it is a great show.

"We want to encourage the existing members to stay especially the older ones who have been with us for some time and this might be their last show. So we thought again and picked Bugsy Malone."

The change to Bugsy Malone was announced on the group's Facebook page last week and was met with a wave of positive responses including that the show "sounds fantastic" and audience members "can't wait" to watch it.

The awards will be held at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall on Sunday, April 14.
