A brand-new SEND school aiming to make a "real difference" to pupils has opened its doors in Kidderminster today (Monday, February 26).

Aurora Wilden View School, on Worcester Road, is set to provide support and a personalised education for students aged five to 19 who have additional learning needs.

This includes social, emotional and mental health needs associated with autism as the school offers a calm and nurturing environment for its pupils.

Headteacher Robert McConomy, said: "I'm absolutely delighted to finally open the doors of Aurora Wilden View School. We've been working towards this since I joined Aurora almost one year ago and it will be incredible to finally see our purpose-built service being used by our young people who will thrive in our caring, nurturing setting.

"We've recruited an amazing staff team who really believe in our therapeutic approach and want to make a real difference to the lives of young people in our 'home from home' setting."

The school is part of the Aurora Group, which was established in 2015 and is the UK's sixth-largest provider of education for young people with SEND.

The company works with more than 80 funding authorities who commission a mixture of day, outreach and residential placements.

The new school will be able to accommodate 76 pupils with the building set across 3 floors that have specialist classrooms and dedicated areas for therapy, art and design, nurture provision and a redesigned catering area.

Mr McConomy added: "Throughout the last year, we've worked incredibly hard to develop a provision that will enhance the lives of our young people to enable them to reach their full potential and achieve their aspirations.

"Our core purpose is to ensure our students thrive and we'll do this in many ways from providing a strong well-balanced curriculum to opportunities for our young people to play an active role in both our school, local communities and further afield.

"We look forward to many successful years providing high-quality education, therapeutic support and development opportunities to enable all our students to achieve their own personal goals and aspirations."
