A 'MONSTER truck' was one of many vehicles pulled over by police as part of a traffic safety operation.

Lorries, vans and cars were stopped during West Mercia Police's 'Operation Forefront', with officers checking vehicle safety and potential offences.

The force was working with partner agencies including HMRC and the DVSA.

The operation was held at the DVSA test centre in Kidderminster this morning (Tuesday, March 5) and was led by PCSO Andy Stevens.

Issues with vehicles included insecure loads and people driving with non-compliant number plates.

PCC John Campion attended the operation. He said it was about ensuring that the vehicles using the road are lawful and safe.

He said that some vehicles stopped by police were "not in a fit state" to be on the road.

He said: "We've seen already this morning vehicles not in a fit state to be on the road, whether that be through illegal tint which means drivers can't see pedestrians or road users, through to number plates that have been illegally altered so they can't be read by automatic number plate recognition".

One unusual vehicle that was stopped was a restored 1973 Chevrolet Blazer which has spikes on the wheels.

Mechanic Aden Redif, who owns the huge customised truck, said it's not the first time he's been pulled over whilst driving it, and that he "didn't mind."

Other than the vehicle requiring a change of number plate due to its black background, police said there were no issues with the vehicle.

Mr Redif, aged 39, said: "I've fully restored it. It was a totally different truck. I've got another one of those".
