A "nightmare" three-month road closure is set to end after causing weeks of travel chaos in the area.

Worcestershire County Council has announced that the A448 towards Kidderminster at Chaddesley Corbett is set to reopen after Severn Trent completed its work ahead of schedule.

The A448 has been closed since February 19 for water main replacement works with the road not expected to reopen until May.

The work had previously been started in May 2023 but had to be abandoned due to a road worker being seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle.

Due to the incident, the work had to be completed under a full road closure to protect the workforce.

A spokesperson for Worcestershire County Council said: "Water main renewal works by Severn Trent on the A448 in Chaddesley Corbett have been completed well ahead of schedule. The road should be back open by 5pm tomorrow (Friday, March 22)."

The closure had been in place 24/7 with no through route to Kidderminster from Bromsgrove between Harvington Hall Lane and Dobes Lane.

There was also a 22-mile official diversion in place with more than 100 people attending a drop-in session last month to raise concerns about the work.

The latest news about the road re-opening will come as a relief to residents as well as the many local businesses in the area including The Fox Inn, Rowberry's Nursery and Chaddesley Fuel Station and Shop.

The work had previously been slammed as a "nightmare" with local businesses losing a significant number of customers and trade due to the ongoing road closure.

The County Council said the A448 towards Kidderminster is set to be reopened by 5pm tomorrow (Friday, March 22).
