THE shocking moment a woman picked up a jacket worth hundreds of pounds and passed it to a child before leaving without paying has been captured on camera.
The incident happened at Allcocks Country, an equestrian, hunting and country clothing store on York Street in Stourport.
Footage shared by the business on its Facebook page shows a woman walking into the shop with two children.
She’s seen browsing before picking up a jacket and putting it down out of view of the camera. She then passes the jacket to one of the children, who appears to complain about it, before the party leaves with the clothing.
The Facebook post said: “We are somewhat hesitant to post this shocking footage for reasons that will become obvious but we are hoping someone can help us to identify the adult or ask her to come and pay the £375 for the jacket”.
Shop co-owner David Allcock shared his anger following the incident, which happened in March this year. He has reported the incident to West Mercia Police.
He said although it was just one jacket, it was “significant” as they are an independent business.
He said: “I do get very emotional about this. I do find it very personal.
“I cannot comprehend the levels that someone would stoop to.
“What is society coming to?”
Social media users shared their shocked reactions to the footage and their support for the shop.
Kirsty Bridgwater said: “How shameful”.
Mark Hardisty said: “Disgusting behaviour, very sad”.
Jane Harrington described it as “shocking behaviour.”
West Mercia Police have been approached for comment on the incident.
