A WYRE Forest golf and country club has been selected to host an event for one of the UK’s leading professional golf tours.

Wharton Park Golf and Country Club in Bewdley is one of only 15 clubs in the country chosen to host a 2024 Tier Two Clutch Tour event, which will see over 120 male and female professionals taking part.

The Longbank club’s 18-hole Championship course will host the two-day ‘Next Gen Series’ event between June 11 and 12, with it expected to attract hundreds of spectators to the 6,455-yard course.

Josh Dyer, golf operations manager at Wharton Park Golf and Country Club said: “It’s a huge honour for us to be selected as a host course for this year’s Clutch Tour. We are one of only two clubs in the region who are hosting so it’s also a proud milestone for the Club Company as a whole.

“The Tour has a formidable reputation and has produced many golfers who have stepped up to play in PGA Tour events. That means we had to meet a very strict criteria and the organisers went away hugely impressed with the standard of the course and our facilities.

“It’s only a matter of months away but the course will be in first-class condition as usual, although we will be making some changes to make it as tough as possible. Our members will also play a key role by volunteering on and around the course over what is set to be a fantastic two days of golf.

“This is the first of many professional events we want to host here at Wharton Park. It helps put us on the map and gives an opportunity to impress the golfers and the organisers.”

Sponsorship opportunities are available to businesses for the event, including the rare chance to sponsor the club’s driving range, buggies and specific holes.
