A MASONIC group which includes a member treated at the Millbrook Suite has donated £400 to the appeal.

Peter Muller, treasurer of the Old Carolian Masonic Lodge, has visited the suite for prostate cancer treatment over the past three years.

He said: “They do need some help at the unit and they are such nice people there. I always had good experiences of going there – they are so kind and understand people’s needs.”

The group meets at the Ramada Hotel, Bewdley and raised the money through donations at lunch meetings and raffles.

The masonic lodge’s Worshipful Master, Michael Insull, chose the Millbrook Appeal as the main beneficiary for donations this year.

Mr Muller, 70, said he was “hoping to be given the all clear” in September, when his three-year course of treatment comes to an end.

“I’m so grateful to the staff at the Millbrook for the help they have given me,” he added. “There’s doing your job and then doing your job really well. Patients are put at ease and the staff work so hard.”

Mr Muller said he thought awareness of prostate cancer could be improved but added Wyre Forest had “one of the largest support groups in the country”.

Quarterly support group meetings are held at Kidderminster Town Hall, with blood test screening available.

“Nearly 10 per cent of men screened at the last meeting had problems that needed investigating, so it really is important to get checked out,” Mr Muller added.

l A skittles tournament run by Wyre Forest Golf Club’s senior section has raised £255. The event was held on Friday, April 17 and was attended by 50 people.

Jim McIntyre, club treasurer, said: “Quite a few of our members are suffering from cancer and we always like to support local charities. It’s nice to know the money isn’t just going into a national melting pot and that it will support a local cause.”
