A SUPPORT group for women who have experienced breast cancer has given £1,200 to the Millbrook Suite and is hoping to help pay for an ultrasound scanner at Kidderminster Hospital.

Bosom Friends, which meets on the second Tuesday of every month in the Millbrook Suite, held a series of fund-raising events this year including collecting money at the Rose Theatre and holding a barbecue party.

They have given £600 to the appeal and another £600 directly to the Millbrook Suite to be used for therapies for patients undergoing treatment.

The group is now appealing for help in raising £23,000 for a lighted retractor to be used by Dr Michelle Mullan for the diagnosis of breast cancer.

The League of Friends, which is organising the Millbrook Appeal, has already put forward money for the scanner, so any donations would go straight to them.

Sheila Pratt, secretary of the Bosom Friends, said: “Dr Mullan would be grateful to receive any further donations for the scanner, to enable The League of Friends to divert their help to other worthy causes.

“The machine would be sited at Kidderminster Hospital, and on the days when Miss Mullan would not be using it for breast cancer diagnosis, it would be used by Dr Bennett in the Pain Clinic, ensuring that it would not be left standing idle.”

Bosom Friends member Pam Brewer has recently been treated by Dr Mullan following a recurrence of breast cancer, undergoing reconstruction surgery.

Her neighbours at Woodlands Park in Bewdley have already raised nearly £1,000 for the Millbrook Appeal and have recently gathered £100, which will be donated towards the scanner at Miss Mullan’s request.

The group was formed in 1998 by three ladies who were diagnosed with breast cancer. They take part in activities and always welcome new members. Contact Mrs Pratt on 01562 68822 for more details.
