AN ADVENTUROUS Kidderminster woman is set to face her biggest challenge yet when she climbs the world’s highest freestanding mountain for charity.

Hannah Chatterton will put on her walking boots to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice - a charity which provides care and support for life-limited children.

It is a charity close to the 20-year-old’s heart as her cousin, Millie Pearson, 12, who is severely disabled, attends one of its hospices.

Miss Chatterton will be jetting off to Tanzania for the climb, on Saturday but will spend the first three days refurbishing classrooms at a school.

She will start the climb on Wednesday next week and will walk for eight days, with a group of about 20 people, to reach the top of the mountain.

“I was looking at what fund-raising opportunities there were and thought I would give the climb a go,” said Miss Chatterton, of Sutton Park Rise.

“The charity is one which is very close to my heart, so I want to raise as much money as possible.

“This is the first time I have done anything like this and I have been training at the gym.”

Miss Chatterton added she hoped the public would rally behind her to help her raise £1,000 for the charity.

“I’m looking forward to the climb,” she added, “ I’m quite nervous about meeting the other members of the group because we haven’t met each other before.

“We will be meeting for the first time at Heathrow Airport on Saturday.”
