A STOURPORT petrol station barricaded in by road works is down from selling 9,000 litres of petrol a day to 70.

The Total UK service station in Worcester Road has been suffering a downturn in trade in the wake of the five week closure of Gilgal so that essential works can take place.

Rabi Thiru, manager, said they were only pulling in six to eight customers a day and the business was suffering.

He explained that they had already introduced reduced times as a result of a loss in trade.

He added: “We have lost a lot of business. It is having an effect on us. People don’t want to come in as they are afraid of getting stuck.

“We have been down (to selling) 70, 80 or 90 litres a day.”

Mr Thiru explained that the only way into the petrol station was through a narrow space which most drivers were not prepared to risk.

He said they had been promised compensation by the utility companies and they would be reliant on this to make up for the loss in trade.

A spokesman for Balfour Beatty said: “There is no easy calculation for compensation and customers need to contact the relevant utility companies.”
