At least three of the fans looking forward to the Bewdley Festival appearance of Sir Stirling Moss were present at Goodwood in 1962 when he suffered dreadful head injuries in the near fatal crash which effectively ended his career.

Dave Williams from Bewdley has been a huge fan for over 50 years. "I shall never forget that day," said Dave. "I am thrilled that he will be appearing in Bewdley. There are so many questions that I want to ask him."

Jos Swingler, Festival Committee Member and his friend, Jonathan Britton, were also at Goodwood that day. Jonathan happened to be filming at the moment of the crash and took what was believed to be the only record of the incident. One of the national newspapers bought the film from him and was able to publish a series of photographs. Jonathan has always wondered whether any other photographs or footage emerged later, and is travelling from his home in Gloucestershire hoping to have the opportunity to ask that question.

Jos Swingler said, "Stirling was such a great hero to young men at the peak of his career that we have never forgotten him. My own love of sports and racing cars , and ownership of a replica GT40, is directly attributable to his skills and success. Stirling raced in many different cars and although I do not believe he ever raced in a GT40, I will aim to ask him if he has ever driven one."

There are still just a few tickets available at Bewdley Tourist Information Centre (telephone 01299 404740) to see Sir Stirling Moss on Saturday 10th October.
