WYRE Forest residents are all set for events to raise cash for Children in Need.

Members of Young Gloves Karate Club will be holding a competition to raise funds for the cause, at King Charles I School, on Sunday, November 29.

The competition will be the club’s eighth event for the children’s charity. Last year it raised about £2,000.

Justin Thomas, who owns the club, said about 140 children would be taking part.

“The majority of my members are children, so I thought it would be a good idea to raise money for a children’s charity,” he said.

Bewdley Rowing Club will also be doing its bit for Pudsey. Eight rowers will cover 60 miles between them when they row from Bewdley to Purton in Gloucestershire.

The event was due to be held last Saturday but had to be cancelled due to the river levels.

Tim Lazenby, of the rowing club, said the event would now be held in March or April next year.
