KIDDERMINSTER’S Carnival queen was all smiles on a visit to German twin town, Husum, despite the freezing weather takings its toll on a popular flower festival.

Cold weather had left the annual Crocus Festival without any flowers but the celebrations continued, regardless.

Ruth Keenan attended the crowning of new Husum crocus queen, Annika Lorenzen, joined by members of Kidderminster’s twinning association.

The town was filled with market stalls and visiting crafts people.

After the festival, a day was spent at the New Energy Fair, an important event for Husum’s ecomony, attracting exhibitors from across the globe.

This year the show was dedicated to electric vehicles, with presentations on wind and solar power generation.

Kidderminster’s new carnival queen will be chosen on Sunday, May 2 at Kidderminster Town Hall.

Registration takes place from 10am. Competitions for rosebuds are at 10.30am, princesses at 12.30pm and the queen at 1.30pm.
