A TEENAGE motorcross rider is “staying postive” in his fight to regain mobility after he was paralysed in a biking accident.

Callum Loveridge, a member of Wilden Motorcross Club, broke four bones in his neck and severed his spinal chord after a BMX stunt went wrong in February.

The 16-year-old is now being treated at a spinal injuries unit in Oswestry.

Nearly £30,000 has been raised to pay for specialist equipment and adaptions to Callum’s home ready for his return.

Events have been held across the West Midlands, with the motorcross community uniting to support the Cal4U appeal.

Bob Billingham, spokesman for the appeal, said: “His spirit still remains very, very strong and, though he has some bad days, he is staying really positive and make the best of what he can do.”

Callum, of Norton, near Stourbridge, is currently awaiting a made-to-measure electric wheelchair.

“He’s spending more time out of his bed, which is important to prepare him for his new chair,” said Mr Billingham.

A website, cal4u.co.uk, has attracted more than 20,000 visitors and £8,500 has come from the sale of Cal4U hoodies and T shirts.

“Callum is gobsmacked that so many people have given him so much support and encouragement,” Mr Billingham went on.

“There’s so much stuff going on and plenty of opportunities to get involved and help him.”

Visitors to the site can check on the latest events dedicated to raising cash for Callum, as well as buy merchandise featuring the charity’s logo plus a song called Truefighter, which was written and recorded for the fund.
