WYRE Forest’s MP has welcomed the news that Stourport will benefit from BT’s roll-out of super-fast fibre broadband.

The announcement, made last week by the telecommunications company, means that up to 9,000 businesses and households will be able to access super-fast broadband, at speeds of up to 40Mb/s, by spring, 2012.

Conservative Mark Garnier said: “This is an important development for Stourport. Increasingly, when considering where to relocate, businesses and individuals frequently look at broadband access.

“This announcement brings Stourport into the communications 21st century and contributes to Stourport being a great place to live and work.”

The announcement follows last month’s news that BT is investing up to £2.5 billion to deliver fibre broadband to up to two-thirds of UK homes and businesses, as part of the Government’s commitment to deliver faster broadband speeds to more rural parts of the country.
