KIDDERMINSTER Town Hall was hopping as it hosted the first North Worcestershire Rabbit Show.

The event, last Saturday, was hailed “a huge success” by organisers and attended by more 100 members of the public throughout the morning.

There were 14 categories, in which 34 different rabbits were entered. Regional rabbit rescue charity, Fat Fluffs, also raised almost £120 from sales of merchandise, rabbit treats and toys.

The event, the first of its type, was also the first public engagement for new Kidderminster Mayor, Anne Hingley.

Bewdley-based rabbit owner, Wyre Forest District Council cabinet member Julian Phillips, organised the event with help from two of his friends who also keep rabbits.

He said: “I am absolutely chuffed with how the show went. A lot of work went on during the build-up to this in terms of planning, printing fliers, certificates, gathering sponsorship and ensuring that the bunnies in attendance would remain safe.

“To see it transpire without a hitch and to see so many people of all different ages be as attached to their rabbit as I am to mine was an amazing experience. It was a first class family event.

“I would like to thank the Mayor of Kidderminster, who did an excellent job as judge for the competitions, along with her granddaughter, Zoe. I would also like to thank Bewdley Round Table, who had agreed to fund the hiring of the town hall.”

Abi Weake, trustee of Fat Fluffs Rabbit Rescue, said: “It was great to be involved in this event and be able to offer advice and guidance to owners of bunnies of all shapes, sizes and ages.

“As many of the rabbits were un-neutered and living alone, the importance of neutering and companionship were two of our main topics of discussion.

“Hopefully, many of these single bunnies will soon be looking for bunny love via the Fat Fluffs website, fatfluffs.com. Every bunny needs some bunny and it’s never too late to find your rabbit a friend.”

Planning is already under way for the second North Worcestershire Rabbit Show, to be held in conjunction with Rabbit Awareness Week 2012.
