THE Elizabeth Mills Centre (EMC) in Stourport raised £400 at an emotional coffee morning that saw supporters come together at the centre that recently faced closure.

The charity’s cash was boosted by the Stourport branch of Barclays Bank, which doubled the amount and the Monday Night Whist Group raised another £70 in a raffle.

Chairman of EMC, Karen Butler said: "It's absolutely amazing to receive such wonderful support. Barclays Bank helped organise the event and have generously doubled this figure which means it has reached a tremendous height of £800. We can't thank them enough.

"They are also getting involved with our talent competition at the beginning of July. It was a really emotional morning especially when you think the centre was on the brink of closure.”

At the event on Saturday, May 21, the tombola was packed with prizes donated by members, friends and hair and beauty salon Finishin' Touch of Stourport.

Miss Butler added: “The EMC is coming together. We have so many events planned and we welcome anyone who wishes to join us or indeed help us. We are planning a centre makeover very soon.

"We are also in need of an art teacher if anyone would like to bring a touch of art and craft to the EMC."
