A FARM in Bewdley is holding its very own family Olympic games to raise money for one of its volunteers who will be competing in the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens this summer.

Uncllys Farm is taking part in national Open Farm Sunday, June 12 when visitors can enjoy guided walks and meet the animals.

Their farm-themed Olympic games will include wheel barrow races - with real wheel barrows, and feed sack races along with lots of other fun and games.

The event is free, with small donations for entering the races, with all the funds going to Jamie Dancyger, 25, who will be competing in the 1,500m, 3,000m and four 400m relay races, after training with the Special Olympic team for 11 years.

Uncllys is home to Wyre Community Land Trust (WCLT) which aims is to restore the unique landscape of the Wyre, to celebrate its rich working history and help protect rare species. It brings together dedicated volunteers to restore and manage the landscape.

John Isles managing director of WCLT said: “We decided to do a lot more than open the farm up for people to visit us.

“All the funds that we raise are going to support Jamie Dancyger who is in the Great Britain team going to the Special Olympic World Summer Games in Athens. Jamie, who has a learning disability, is one of the volunteers with the Wyre Community Land Trust and has helped plant new orchards, erect fences and worked with cattle.”

The event will also feature a barbecue with their farm-reared beef burgers and pork sausages. The farm will be open from 1.30pm when you can to book your place in a race, with races starting at 2pm.
