GARDEN enthusiasts showed off their blooming flowers and colourful displays to an “excellent” standard at this year’s Bewdley in Bloom contest.

Judges went around the riverside town to pick winners in catergories such as the best large and small private gardens, tub or vase and the best window box.

This year’s winners included St Anne’s Primary School, which scooped top prize in the best school section, while Far Forest Primary School came top for its scarecrow display and won the tub or vase class.

The Old Waggon and Horses pub bounced into top place in the best pub or hotel category and Bewdley Museum took home the winning prize in the shop front, commercial or club section.

Individual winners included Miss May Carter for her hanging basket, Mr Tom Hall for his window box, vegetable garden and private outside front and Mrs R Faulkner for corner or passageway and best small private garden.

The best courtyard went to Mrs J Silk, while Mr and Mrs C Quayle won the best large private garden. Woodlands Park Homes scooped top prize for group effort.

The best mobile home surround went to Mr and Mrs Leach, while Mrs C Williams won the special reasons award.

Hugh Morgan, of Bewdley in Bloom, said: “The standard of the displays this year was excellent, particularly in the large and small private gardens, where the marks were very close.”
