The festival is about to start. If you can’t wait and want a little taste of KAF you can visit the library gallery from the 6th of August, where there will be an exhibition of all those who have taken part in BLOOM and a snippet of the artwork which is being worked on now for the big show on the 24th and 25th of August.  It’s great to see the faces of local people which have been transferred to canvas for the exhibition, if you have had your photograph included you can come and claim you image when the exhibition is finished at the end of August.

Some KAF events are already sold out so we strongly advise you to book online to avoid disappointment.  www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk/summer.  Alternatively you can pop into the Town Hall to pick up tickets for Dodgy, The Animals and Gordon Giltrap, there will be more on the door if there’s any left! Dates are as follows:
Thursday 16th August - Dodgy with support from Luke Concannon and Andy Richards.
Friday 17th - The Animals with support from Blues Boy Dan
Saturday 18th of August – Gordon Giltrap with support from Kim Lowings

You can now find a ‘Success Transmitting Devise’ in the library, which was installed by the Bio-organism Substrate Industries technician last week. Please pick up a post card which you will find near the devise and let us know even your smallest success and send it to us freepost. All this success is being collected and we hope it will rub off on the British team during the games.  Why not be part of it? All the details are in the library and the STD will only be in situ until the 16th of August.

There are still opportunities to be involved in the festival, if you are a budding actor you could gain valuable experience with FLUXX theatre who are offering a limited number of places to join the cast for their show ‘Without Planning Permission’. FLUXX are a nationally known company with a great reputation of cutting edge interactive theatre so don’t miss the chance to be involved or for that matter going to see them. If you’d like the chance to be involved email arts@wyreforestdc.gov.uk. You will need to be available for rehearsals on the evenings of both the 21st and 22nd of August and for the show on the 23rd.

KAF is lucky enough to be working with a range of local partners who are crucial making the festival a success. The Boars Head Gallery (upstairs in the pub on Worcester Street) has become a driving force for the arts in Kidderminster. KAF Creatives meet there and hatch ideas and the gallery promote a range of events and during KAF is no exception. Their first event is being a host for the first Worcestershire Film Festival and their outreach sessions. You have an opportunity to contribute your memories and thoughts about cinema in the area, from 11am until 4pm on the 11th of August.  Mouth and Music an open mic night which is growing in popularity with each event follows. Get there early to ensure a good seat. Mic sign up is at 7.30 and the performance starts at 8pm on the 14th of August. £3 on the door, performers entry is free.

Then it’s Sarah Tamar who will be presenting Kick Off, a performance which is the final for a year long program of work exploring women’s relationship with football. Come along and show your support on the 16th of August 7.30pm until 9pm, £3 on the door.  If that’s not enough Filmaddict will be showcasing Midlands based talent by showing 20 minute shorts and providing a great event to get together with all those involved in the filmmaking process. You can book online or pay on the door, £3 on the 20th of August from 7pm.

Next up is Above Boards Paint Jam and Arts Market on the 18th from 11am until 6pm, Free and open to everyone. Stall holders and artists for the paint jam can still apply contact gallery@boars-head-kidderminster.co.uk if you’d like to be involved.  The gallery are looking for donations of material for their paint jam, wood for the boards particularly, so if you can help drop them an email. You can find out more about the event on Facebook http://on.fb.me./aboveboards. Drop in to see the KFO Crew exhibition and a pint from 1pm until 6pm from the 4th until the 31st of August.

If you use Mill Street subway you’ll notice it’s had a lick of paint, this is in preparation for the Subway Makeover when nationally known artist Silent Hobo will be creating a bespoke piece of artwork for Kidderminster. He’ll be on site from the 13th of August, painting each day until it’s finished. You can see his work at www.silenthobo.co.uk.  Thanks goes to ReWyre for funding another subway improvement.
