Leading Shropshire, Worcestershire and Mid Wales company Halls has demonstrated its support for deserving local charities by donating £21,000 in the past 12 months.

The company, which has its headquarters at Battlefield, Shrewsbury, completed its charitable donations for 2013 by handing over cheques for £3,000 each to four charities at a presentation ceremony this week.

The charities to benefit included The Stephen Powell Cancer Research Fund, established by Stephen Powell, a residential director of Halls who is fighting cancer.

Other cheque recipients were Midlands Air Ambulance, Little Hearts Matter, which supports children with congenital heart defects and Shropshire RCC Carers Appeal, which aims to ensure that the 34,000 family carers in Shropshire have the help they need when they need it.

Halls’ Kidderminster office chose Little Hearts Matter and dairy farmers Adrian and Rachel Robinson from Cleobury Mortimer accepted the cheque on behalf of the charity from Sarah Hulland.

Towards the end of last year, Halls also presented cheques for £3,000 each to The Samaritans, AMMF, the UK’s only cholangiocarcinoma charity which is promoted by the family of the late Howard Jones and the Alex Wilson Foundation, set up by Chris and Jean Wilson in memory of their son, Alex, to offer a scholarship at Shrewsbury School to a keen sportsman.

Halls’ chairman Peter Willcock said: “We are delighted to be able to support the excellent work of these seven charities, which have strong local links in the areas that the company serves.

“The directors decided to focus our major charitable donations in 2012-’13 and chose the recipients after careful consideration. Many of the charities have close links with the company and are making great efforts to raise money for good causes.”

Halls, agricultural and fine art auctioneers, estate agents, surveyors and valuers, has offices in Shrewsbury, Whitchurch, Oswestry, Welshpool, Ellesmere, Bishops Castle, Kidderminster and Worcester.
