AROUND 129,000 visitors attended this year’s CLA (Country Land and Business Association) Game Fair at Ragley Hall, Warwickshire.

Starting last Friday in soaring temperatures, the three-day event saw Government ministers and celebrities mingling with countrysports enthusiasts and countryside lovers, who browsed around 900 exhibitors.

Thousands of visitors took the opportunity to try country activities including archery, shooting and fishing.

CLA director general Helen Woolley said: “Feedback from visitors over the weekend showed they thoroughly enjoyed the event. The new features, including Equestrian Sunday with the showcase Express Eventing in the main arena, the Rolls-Royce Country Club and the Fish for a Fortune competition were very well received.

“We will be building on these features at next year’s CLA Game Fair. This year’s show has underlined that the format, which remains true to its roots but is entirely relevant to current issues and concerns, is the right one.”

CLA president Harry Cotterell said: “This year’s CLA Game Fair has proved that it is not just as the premier showcase for the countryside but a platform for politicians of all major parties to address crucial rural issues.

“I am particularly pleased that Environment Secretary Owen Paterson vowed to work with the CLA and others to simplify payments made through the Common Agricultural Policy.”

CLA Game Fair director Andrew Crawford said: “It has been a wonderful return to Ragley and our team has excelled itself in delivering a world-class event in a stunning location. We fully intend to build on this to ensure we deliver a great experience at Blenheim next year.”

The 2014 CLA Game Fair will be held at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, from July 18 to 20.
