Every few weeks, coaches from Kidderminster and the surrounding area travel to Birmingham Symphony Hall to listen to classical concerts. The cultural life of Kidderminster, however, is vibrant and examples are the Bewdley Festival, the Kidderminster Male Voice Choir, the Rose Theatre, and Wyre Forest Symphony Orchestra.

The Orchestra, comprising 50 nonprofessional , enthusiastic amateurs gives three concerts a year in the Town Hall. It is conducted by Dan Watson and gives a solo platform to nationally recognised artists, all for an entrance fee of less than £10.

Recently, I heard a magnificent performance of the mighty Tchaikovsky 4th Symphony and the orchestra has also played Beethoven’s Choral Symphony. The next concert, on July 4. has a programme of Mozart, excerpts from Bizet’s Carmen, sung by Suzie Parkes, and the very popular New World Symphony by Dvorak.

If you are a lover of classical music, I can thoroughly recommend the concerts of Wyre Forest Symphony Orchestra. I can promise you many evenings to remember.
