I was shocked and appalled to read your article regarding the care at Westley Court care home Cookley, Kidderminster.

My father has been a resident there for 12 months, and I can honestly say he has only ever received first class treatment by all the staff, carers, nurses, activity co-ordinators and the management.

His safety has never been in question.

I visit my father on a regular basis and the staff there are always helpful and readily available. Also I do not think there is an infection problem, in fact you could eat your dinner off the floor.

There is always appropriate care given, and I know training and support are in place, as I have been at the home when members of care staff are talking about training that has been arranged for them.

If I was the Care Quality Inspector, I would have rated Westley court 5 star + + + and beyond. It is a super care home. I would like to thank Sarah Webb (care home manager) and all her wonderful carers, nurses and all the staff, I wish I could name everyone, for the outstanding care, love, support and attention they give to every resident. If I could give them a score of more than 100 out of 100 then I would, because I certainly haven’t got what it takes to be a carer. They are truly angels.

I don’t know who this CQC inspector was, but I suggest they visit the care homes that really do need a bad report and improvement.

There are plenty about, as I know because I had to go to look at them when I was choosing a suitable one for dad, or is it easier just to report that a shower gel had been put in the wrong place? They should visit those homes where residents really are at risk to their well being. The CQC should not be targeting a good quality home like Westley Court, because all it has achieved is scaremongering the families who have loved ones placed in their care.

I do sincerely hope you will print my views and comments in your newspaper, as there is enough doom and gloom and bad press, let us hear some good truthful news for a change. This story needs to be set straight, as it could frighten future families of loved ones that need good quality care, which is what they will get at Westley Court, and not what was reported by the CQC.

I cannot speak for the other two homes, but I do know what I am talking about at Westley Court.

From Val Smith, daughter of Bill Poole, who is a well looked after resident at Westley Court room 21.
