OH DEAR! Tories put up Wyre Forest Car Park charges – again!
From 70p to £1 for 30 minutes and £1.20 to £1.50 for an hour.
David Cameron is on record as saying he wanted market towns to go for free parking.
Wyre Forest is out of step! There is a lot of pressure at the moment on Load Street and Dog Lane car parks in Bewdley with traffic congestion due to the vital work building the new medical centre.
Here’s my personal view – introduce £1 parking fee all day for all our car parks. That would help ease congestion in the streets around the car parks and WFDC could be known as an area particularly friendly to motorists.
How would the loss of revenue be paid for? By closely looking at all of our civic charges for services, seeking partners and advertising companies to sponsor car parking services, possibly by taking initial money from council’s reserves, maybe charging for onstreet parking in now restricted areas subject to “I hour and no return bays”
