ON approaching the entrance to Bewdley market on Saturday I saw two couples standing looking aghast, as I did myself, when we saw that the whole of the wonderful wisteria that had graced, and been a talking point, at the side of The George Hotel for decades had been completely destroyed.
Not even the roots had been left intact so that it could eventually grow again.
What kind of people are on the board of directors of Wetherspoons that they didn't appreciate the appeal and history of this.
I've been told that their company are only interested in catering for the younger element of our society. So we can only hope that when the hotel opens again, this younger element will treat the newly fitted-out inside with the same disdain that the company have shown for the wisteria, and that all the people of Bewdley who are disgusted at this act of vandalism on the part of Wethespoons will boycott the place completely.
