AS a trader in Stourport, running a family business that has traded for some 85 years, I am disappointed but not surprised that Stephen Clee believes the recent refurbishment of Bridge Street is acceptable.

We have suffered the frustration of inept organisation and prolonged traffic congestion, although I have been offered a five per cent rate reduction for the period of the recent pavement works. Yet another insult but we soldier on.

The bridge is painted the wrong colour but compliments the funfair.

The skate park allows me to view the use to which my stolen spray paints have been put.

The quality of works in Bridge Street is totally unacceptable, as was the refurbishment of High Street, thus proving that no lessons have been learnt.

I note with interest the recent article complimenting Barratt Homes on considering the heritage of the basin area and a picture of a modern low-rise block of flats.

The same planning department is proposing road changes to facilitate better access to the new Tesco.

Tesco are a very successful retailer. I accept they are coming, but make the road alterations benefit the people of Stourport, not as proposed.

"The bridge is painted the wrong colour" The colour was chosen by 'the public' and thus can't be wrong.

Ah now come on it's a nice shade of blue, not too deep, but not to light and fancy; yep I like the blue. Note I say nothing about the gold on the grounds it ain't gold.

Still at least they're consistent in its use through the town although those bins and posts seem much darker; almost black even.

Also congratulations are in order for the icing-sugar pavements which managed to look nice for at least two days after they were put down. No I tell a lie they didn't look nice even when they were new, clean, and sparkly.

At least the road was done properly. Oh sure they needed to fix that cover opposite the Sweet Jar that hadn't been fixed down correctly.

And the covers had been levelled off to the road surface before they added a new brown layer for the pelican crossing making them all inset.

Oh and sure there's that dip as you drive from the town over the bridge.

And it's nice they repainted the Bridge Inn side steps, although wholesale replacement with brick ones would have been much nicer (and less lethal)

Oh and sure they've shoved that post in the wrong place and the nice new map is a slip hazard.

But apart from all that what's wrong with the Bridge Street refurbishment?
