REGARDING the planning application to develop Chester Road Bowling Club, my initial concern is with the overkill of traffic that already exists on this extremely busy and congested main artery.

At the moment the traffic coming and going from the bowling club is sporadic. This would change considerably.

The road takes a slight curve going past the bowling club and unfamiliar drivers do not realise that traffic lights are ahead with a shriek of brakes as a result.

Familiar impatient drivers, wanting to turn right either into Linden Avenue or at the traffic lights, cause confusion by going tandem towards the lights and as a consequence a young person was injured a little while ago.

Residents in Linden Avenue and Linden Grove have the ongoing problem of their road being used as a car park.

The proposed parking facilities on the plan look completely inadequate and more visitors arriving looking for somewhere to park will no doubt add to this predicament.

Due to the closure of two petrol stations in the vicinity of the Land Oak there has been significant change with regard to the landscape and the subsequent additional traffic.

I believe it would be extremely unwise to have more traffic trying to join in the melee.

Another concern is obviously the children who will be living some of the dwellings. I understand that there are no vacant places in the local schools.

I have lived in this road for 22 years. I know that drivers do not adhere to the 30mph limit.

If the suggested development had been dwellings for the elderly or over 55s, which I believe was the first choice, then the problem of contributing to road congestion or hazards to children would be dissipated somewhat.

With regard to the Spennells Valley Road site where the bowling club would be relocating, the traffic problem again applies with more traffic coming and going from a public house and hotel onto an already busy road.

This would be an absolute disaster.

What we really need is a bypass to take all the heavy traffic away from the residential area.
