ON one of the recent sunny days I took a walk through Brinton Park in Kidderminster.

Imagine my surprise to see a council or parks department employee with a petrol-driven leaf blower on his back, chugging away burning fossil fuel while blowing leaves off one of the paths.

Of course, no sooner had he used his environmentally unfriendly petrol to blow the leaves away and walked on, than the free and green recyclable north wind simply blew the leaves back.

I’m not sure just what the point of having this person, no doubt being paid a considerable wage from the council tax budget, and the expense of both the machine and the fuel to run it, has to do with this council wisely spending our hard-earned money.

Frankly, if the council can waste wages, capital and fuel costs in this manner then any demand for an increase in said council tax should be fully examined for other examples of similar waste.
