IN reply to Mr Jordan’s letter concerning the Rifle Range, I think he and I are probably contemporaries as I too can remember the tanks on the Rifle Range, the childhood scrambles on the Devil’s ‘Spadeful’, and the happy days there on manoeuvres with the King Charles army cadet force in the 1950s.

However, that is where the similarities end as I feel his exaggerated and rather self-indulgent comments concerning the work being done there, presume there are no other opinions.

I regularly walk my dog on the Rifle Range, entering from the safari park entrance, the Blackstone car park and from Rifle Range Road.

I love the wild nature of the reserve, the Soay sheep, the rat runs as he calls them, the woods and shady glades.

I relish the sight of a Severn Valley engine in full glory emerging from the tunnel towards Bewdley, the view of safari park rhinos, deer and antelope and look forward with great interest to the time when the treated areas are resplendent with new growth. It is one of the truly quiet, peaceful and therapeutic places in this area.

I have rather more faith in the work being done by Worcestershire Wildlife Trust than Mr Jordan and feel that he should examine their website for a clearer picture of the aims of the project and the progress.

It is like criticising the foundations of a house before it has been built.
