A MAN forced open a door of a locked car parked outside a home in Kidderminster, a court heard.

Richard Fidoe also tried forcing the steering wheel of the silver Vauxhall Corsa after getting into the driver's seat before police arrived at the scene.

Clare Linehan, prosecuting, said the 24-year-old was seen pulling the door open breaking the door lock by the car's owners from the window of their home at about 4.50am on September 6.

She said: "Fidoe was seen to get into the driver's seat. He was seen to try to force he steering wheel of it.

"The police arrive and Mr Fidoe tried to hide but was located."

In mitigation, Fergus Maxwell said the defendant, of Jubilee Drive, Kidderminster, accepted responsibility for the offence, which added to a list of previous convictions for the same type of offence.

Fidoe pleaded guilty to vehicle interference when he appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, October 23.

Because the crime was committed in the early hours of the morning, District Judge Nigel Cadbury sentenced him to a community order with a 12-week electronic curfew restricting him to his home between 9pm and 7am.

He was also ordered to pay £65 i compensation, £85 in costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
