SOME New Year resolutions may have already fallen by the wayside, but everyone in Worcestershire is being encouraged to Love Food Hate Waste during 2015, to keep pounds in their pockets.

Research shows that, on average, a family throws around £700 worth of perfectly good food into the bin over a 12-month period.

The county’s online one-stop shop for all things waste prevention is the place to go for anyone looking to cut what they throw away and, in turn, save cash.

The app, which is available for Apple and Android devices, includes many features such as a meal planning diaries, a shopping list option and a cook book section.

Councillor Anthony Blagg, Cabinet Member for environment, said: “Who wouldn’t want some extra cash in their pocket? The additional money saved could go towards a holiday, trip to a music festival or the purchase of a new piece of technology.

“The best thing about the Love Food Hate Waste campaign is the tips are simple but very effective. The website has all the information you need and the app, which available as a free download, is a really useful source that people can personalise and use all the time.

“One resolution worth making and keeping during 2015 is to reduce what we throw in the bin as it’s not only good for the environment but also our bank balances. Why not make this the year we do just that?”
