STOURPORT’S new library opened its doors in its new location yesterday morning (Wednesday, March 25).

The library has moved to its newly refurbished location in the Civic Centre, Stourport, as well as increasing its opening to six days a week.

The library celebrated its re-opening with activities and competitions on offer to all who attended, goody bags for under five’s and children’s face painting.

The old library closed its doors on Tuesday, March 17, so the books and furniture could be moved to its new location ready for the first day of opening.

The library is now open six days a week, as it will now open on a Wednesday from 9am to 5.30pm, a day the library had previously been closed.

The facilities and services offered in the new library have not changed, with free internet access, children’s activities, adult learning courses and other regular activities all continuing to be offered.

Councillor Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member for communities and localism, said: “Sharing the building with the Civic, Stourport’s theatre, the Town Council, Police, Coroner and registration means that the new library is going to be part of a lively community hub.

“And not only will customers benefit from the longer opening hours and a newly refurbished space, but also the central location in town.”

The library’s original opening date at its newly refurbished space was put back due to issues with the broadband supply.
