A MAN who was so drunk he couldn't stand up spat on a police officer when he was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

Jamie Wilson had been drinking with a friend at his flat when he went outside and "the heat got to him" resulting in him having to sit down in the street and not being able to get back up.

Owen Beale, prosecuting, said PC Stephen Harris and a colleague went over to talk to the 28-year-old while he was drunk in Franchise Street on April 28.

He said: "When they got there, they found the defendant sitting on the pavement drinking a can of lager. They approached him and he [swore at them] and continued in that manner."

Wilson spat at PC Harris which landed on his boot.

He was then arrested.

It was at the police station when Wilson had still not calmed down and spat at PC Harris as second time, this time landing on his chest plate resulting in an assault charge.

The defendant was said to have an alcohol problem spanning around six years.

In mitigation the court was told on the day in question Wilson was "so drunk he couldn't actually get up off the floor and couldn't remember being abusive."

Wilson, of Castle Road, Kidderminster, pleaded guilty to the two charges when he appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, May 14.

Chairman of the magistrates Tim Morris ordered him to pay a £37 fine for being drunk, a £73 fine for the assault, £50 compensation to PC Harris, £85 in prosecution costs, a £20 victim surcharge, and £150 in court charges.
