COUNCIL bosses are drawing up plans to renovate the historic features of Brinton Park, in Kidderminster.

Wyre Forest District Council is putting together a Heritage Lottery bid for up to £2 million towards its ambitious project - which is hoped to "enhance" residents' experiences of the park.

The plans include building a new pavilion with cafe and toilets, reinstating a pool feature and bridge, creating an amphitheatre in front of the bandstand and creating a World War One memorial, as well as improving signage, car parking and lighting.

The council is working with existing Brinton Park partners in the community to get them involved. It also intends to start a new Friends of the Park group in the autumn, so they can have direct input into the project.

The council's main partner in the project is the 21st Kidderminster Scout Group, who hope to use the new pavilion for their activities.

Councillor Ian Hardiman, cabinet member for operational services, said: "We are proposing to restore many of the heritage aspects of the park which have been lost over time.

"This is an ambitious project which will make improvements to the park and encourage great use.

"It will also enhance people's experience of the open space."

Wyre Forest District Council is looking for residents' views on the park to help shape the lottery bid and an online survey is available at wyreforestdc.gov.uk/brintonparksurvey.

Paper copies of the survey are available at the Worcestershire Hub in Vicar Street.

Cllr Hardiman added: "There is a lot of work to take place before the application is submitted in spring 2017.

"We hope people in the town and visitors will back the bid, starting with completing the questionnaire and letting us know their views."

Survey responses need to be submitted by Friday, September 2.
