PATROLS have been increased along the Severn Valley Railway route in Kidderminster after a series of incidents of criminal damage to trains.

Eight incidents were reported on Monday and Tuesday, July 21 and 22, including stones being thrown at trains. No-one was injured.

The incidents have mainly happened along the section of the track between Stourport Road in Kidderminster and Bewdley, with most occurring in the Birchen Coppice area.

Sgt Nadine Pearse, of Kidderminster police, said: “Patrols by police and community support officers have been increased and the details of 10 children found in the area have been recorded.

“Any activity that involves causing criminal damage to trains is extremely dangerous and will be taken very seriously by the police.

“Young people should not be near train tracks at all and we are appealing to parents to speak to their children about the dangers.“ Trespass on a railway line carries a maximum fine of £1,000, while throwing missiles such as stones with the intent to cause injury or endanger safety carries a maximum term of life imprisonment.
