UP to 3,000 people are expected at Kidderminster’s second annual gay pride event on Sunday.

A variety of entertainment will be held in Brinton Park including performances by Kidderminster singer Laura Broad and Carrie-Ann McNally, formerly of girl group Sinergie.

Organiser Nathan Wilde said it was set to be the largest free music event in Wyre Forest’s history.

The theme is "bigger, bolder and better" following on the success of last year’s festival, which attracted 1,000 revellers to the Royal Exchange pub.

Mr Wilde explained: “We had to turn people away last year because it was so popular so we’re going bigger this year.

“It’s a great opportunity for people to come and have a good time and mingle.”

Money will be raised for the British Red Cross at the event, which will feature food stalls and a beer tent.

Festivities kick off at 2pm and run until 11pm, with DJs manning the decks later in the day.

After parties will then be held at the Royal Exchange and M2 nightclub until the early hours.

Mr Wilde said the event would be a celebration of Wyre Forest’s gay community and would run for “many years to come without fail”.

He went on: “A lot of gay people in the area are proud to be out and are realising they are not alone. This event is really important for Wyre Forest moving forward.”

The day is supported by Wyre Forest District Council, West Mercia Police and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Consortium.
