A SIX-week consultation on possible Wyre Forest sites for gypsies, travellers and travelling show people will start tomorrow and run until November 18.

Seven sites were shortlisted for public consultation by Wyre Forest District Council’s cabinet following a report by Bristol-based planning consultants Baker Associates.

They were at Stourport Road in Bewdley, the former Sion Hill School site in Kidderminster and the Lea Castle Hospital site in Cookley.

In Stourport, possible areas earmarked were land next to Nunn's Corner, Saiwen, The Gables Yard and a farm on St John's Road.

District council chiefs want to know if there are any other sites they have missed which might be suitable for future gypsy, traveller or travelling showpeople use.

Suggestions will be considered along with all consultation responses received on the shortlisted sites.

A public consultation information pack will provide further information on why the council is consulting on the issue, where the suggested sites are and how the consultation process will run.

The pack will be on the council’s website – wyreforestdc.gov.uk – from tomorrow. Hard copies and response forms will be also be available from tomorrow at the Worcestershire Hubs and libraries in Kidderminster, Stourport and Bewdley.

Arrangements are being made for public meetings to be held during the consultation period in conjunction with town and parish councils in areas where potential sites have been identified.

The meetings will be for the public to attend to ask questions regarding the sites and the process of allocation.

Further details of those meetings will be made available on the district council’s website at the earliest opportunity.

Conservative councillor Julian Phillips, the district council’s cabinet member for place shaping, said: “A lot of rumours are flying around at the moment, so I must stress that just because we are consulting on a site does not mean it will be selected.

“No formal decisions on the allocation of sites will be made until 2012 and the comments we receive through this consultation process will help us to make a decision on an issue that has generated a lot of interest locally.”

Completed response forms or letters should be sent to Planning Policy, Wyre Forest District Council, Duke House, Clensmore Street, Kidderminster, DY10 2JX. Alternatively, comments can be sent via email to LDF.Consultation@wyreforestdc.gov.uk
