WEST Mercia Police's new campaign to cut violent crime in Shropshire has been backed by Cleobury Mortimer’s MP The scheme - Call Time on Violent Crime - urges residents to stay safe by avoiding trouble and, in particular, not losing control through excessive drinking.
Conservative Philip Dunne said: "The 30 per cent fall in violent crime resulting in injury in Shropshire over the past year is a remarkable testament to the hard work and dedication of our police officers.
“We should be grateful for the work they do in keeping us safe and free from crime.
“Cutting crime is an area where we can never afford to be complacent and I am pleased that West Mercia Police are still focused on reducing violent crime with their new campaign, Call Time on Violent Crime.
“Alcohol plays a significant factor in a high percentage of assaults. It is important to encourage people to drink responsibly and know their limits. We must also make clear violent behaviour will not be tolerated by the police or the courts.
“I fully support this new campaign and congratulate our police officers on their determination to make Shropshire a safer place to live."
