THIS video shows a collection of photographs taken at a children’s summer holiday club in Cookley more than 40 years ago.
It was compiled by David Atkinson, 70, of Wall Heath, who was the leader and co-ordinator for the summer holiday activities at St Peter’s Church in 1971 and 1972.
While in charge, he took a number of photographs of the group’s art activities, modelling projects and trips to places such as Dudley Zoo and the Clent Hills. Children in the 13 minute-long video range from ages five to 13.
Mr Atkinson said: “I knew I had these photographs and I thought rather than just chuck them away I will have to do something with them.
“The kids in the photo will be in their 50s or older now - it is nostalgic. I am sure there will be some mixed feelings. Some people might think it is embarassing but some will think ‘I remember that, happy days’.”
The footage also shows a 1971 copy of The Shuttle reporting on the success of the holiday clubs at the time.
Mr Atkinson, who was a teacher at schools in Dudley for 42 years, added: “The original leader was taken ill and the church got in touch with a guy who knew me and said would I be the lead man for the week’s acitivites in 1971.
“I had a great time and took a lot of photographs and they asked me if I would do it again the next year, in 1972.”
