ONCE again, our younger students took part in our annual Health Week, organised by Miss Hodgetts, PE teacher. The aim was to teach pupils the benefits of following a healthy lifestyle.

Those who assumed that a “healthy lifestyle” means eating an apple a day, plus the odd helping of vegetables, and maybe the occasional walk, were in for a bit of a shock. All year seven students took part in workshops where, as well as learning about healthy food choices they also took part in activities and exercises aimed at developing their mental agility and team-building skills. Students also took part in alternative sports and self-defence classes.

Other departments got in on the healthy lifestyle act. In English lessons, the students created leaflets aimed at persuading people to adopt healthier habits and the music department explored the effect of music on our emotions and how it can influence our lifestyle decisions. In food technology, students learned how to make healthy snacks whilst dance lessons explored the benefits of dance as part of an exercise regime.

Miss Hodgetts said: “The themed lessons made the students more aware of how knowledge about relationships, drug education and emotional health can be used positively in their everyday lives.”
