A WORLD-renowned explorer is giving a talk on the hundreds of adventures he has experienced to help raise money for the Wyre Forest Cancer Research UK group.

Colonel John Blashford-Snell will recount fascinating stories as the after dinner speaker at the biennial dinner organised by the charity’s small local committee.

The former British Army officer’s ventures have strong environmental, medical and scientific objectives, and among his credits, he also ran Operation Drake and launched Operation Raleigh, providing expeditions for young people.

His own quest for adventure has taken him to all four corners of the Earth and he is currently planning two expeditions for 2015 - to the Indian state of Assam and the untouched Osa Peninsular of Costa Rica.

He will be speaking of his tales alongside a three course dinner at Sixways Stadium, in Worcester, on Friday, November 14, from 7.30pm.

The Wyre Forest Cancer Research UK group, which aims to raise £10,000, has attracted a variety of famous names to its dinners, including Sir Tim Rice, Chris Tarrant and TV presenter and film critic Barry Norman.

Chris Dale, committee member and event organiser, said: “Colonel Blashford-Snell promises to be a superb speaker with a wealth of fascinating tales and anecdotes to draw upon from his adventures spanning almost 50 years.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to listen to one of the world’s most highly respected explorers and help raise much-needed funds to research cures and treatments for one of the biggest killers of our times.”
