A VEHICLE crashed into a property in Stourport and ruptured a gas pipe. 

Residents were evacuated from their homes on the A4025, Gilgal, as a precautionary measure, after a vehicle crashed into a property and ruptured a gas pipe at around 8.20pm on Saturday evening (October 15).

A spokesman from Stourport Safer Neighbourhood Team said a gas pipe had been damaged into the crash and the road had been closed.

The road was closed between the A451, Vale Road, and A451, Lion Hill, for a number of hours due to the gas leak. 

A spokesman from West Mercia Police said: "We received reports that a vehicle had crashed into a property on the A4025, Gilgal, in Stourport.

"We received further reports that the collision had ruptured a gas line.

"As a precautionary measure we evacuated the residents of the surrounding area and closed the road while fire crews and the National Grid made the line and area safe.

"The driver, a 36-year-old man, received no injuries in the crash.

"The area was declared safe at around 10.20pm and we allowed residents back into their homes.

"The road was reopened at 10.35pm."

A spokesman from National Grid said: "A car had damaged a gas service pipe - the pipe that runs from the gas main in the road to individual properties - to a property in the Gilgal.

"Engineers cut of the gas supply to the property and made it safe.

"The fire service evacuated some 15 neighbouring properties.

"Residents were able to return home once the gas supply was cut off. 

"National Grid engineers competed the work at 10.40pm."

A spokesman from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews from Kidderminster fire station attended the incident which involved a vehicle in collision with a house where a gas pipe ruptured.

"The house was structurally in tact and the gas main was capped by a gas engineer."

A spokesman from West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We assessed a 36-year-old man - who said his shoulder was a little stiff but did not want any pain relief and was discharged at the scene.

"A single rapid response vehicle attended the scene."
