THE new president of Stourport Rotary Club is aiming to raise the profile of the organisation in his year at the helm.

Former Stourport Mayor Cliff Brewer has taken over the reins of the town’s Rotary Club from Pete Roberts.

He has chosen Acorns Children’s Hospice as his main charity for the year and the club will be busy raising money for this and other good causes throughout the year.

The club will also be arranging trips and days out for children with disabilities and youngsters in hospitals.

But Councillor Brewer said increasing membership and awareness of their work was essential.

He said: “It is a great honour taking over from Pete, who did a fantastic job as president of Rotary Club, and I’m looking forward to the year ahead.

“We do a lot of great things in the town but the problem we have is many people I meet don’t seem to know too much about Rotary the work we do.

“I want to try to raise the profile of the club further and see us grow – particularly encouraging younger people to join us and get involved.”
