ROTARIANS in Stourport will once again be doing their bit to boost the worldwide effort to eradicate polio.

The second Crocus Plant in the Park initiative will take place at the Memorial Park in Lickhill Road, as part of the Rotary International campaign.

Pupils from Stourport schools will be planting bulbs in the park on World Wide Polio Day on Tuesday, October 24 with further plants planned for October 28 and November 4 from 10.30am.

Last year, the park was turned into a sea of purple as Stourport Rotary organised the planting of 15,000 bulbs and helped raise thousands for the cause. The club is hoping to plant around 10,000 more this year.

Rotary president Cliff Brewer said: “This is one of our most important activities and we are inviting all schools to take part as well as residents. They can bring their packs of bulbs to the park or plant them in their own gardens.

“With the support of people in Stourport, we can help to make history to wipe polio off the face of the earth. It is a vaccine preventable disease that still threatens children in parts of the world today.”

Every £1 raised by Rotary will be made up to £3 in the Polio Fund. Bulbs will be available at Pete’s Prints in Bridge Street, Mantons Jewellers in High Street or Londis at Areley Kings.
