A CYCLIST who died following a crash in Stourport has been described as “happy-go-lucky” by his father.

Lee Stead, 24, of Stourport, died on Tuesday morning after sustaining serious head injuries in a crash with a car on Saturday.

His silver mountain bike was in collision with a silver Renault in Vernon Road, at the junction with Tan Lane, at about 10.40pm.

His father Neil Stead, 47, said: “Lee was always helping people and always liked to keep busy. He was a happy-go-lucky person.”

The Aston Villa football fan lived at home in Park Crescent with his parents Neil and Debbie and his sister Naomi. His other sister Vanessa lives close by.

He had previously lived in Bewdley and Far Forest before moving to Stourport.

Neil added: “He liked playing on his Xbox and he loved his motorbikes and hanging around with his mates.”

Lee was currently unemployed but had previously worked at Smethwick Drop Forge (SDF) in Stourport Road, in Kidderminster.

He had recently passed his forklift truck driver exams and was looking for a new job in that field.

Neil added: “He came back from SDF one day with the nickname Leeber and it stuck. He’s got it on his hi-vis jacket and on his Villa shirt. We don’t know why they called it him.

“He’s had a few jobs. He got laid off at SDF and they were ringing him up daily to go back.

“We didn’t want him to go back as he always came home covered in oil and the house got covered in oil too.

“He liked to get covered in oil. One day he had a bike and the next it was just a frame and all the bits were over the back garden. I was always telling him off but he took no notice.

“He carried a donor card and we decided to donate his organs, as that was what he would have wanted.”

Details of his funeral have yet to be arranged.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses and anyone with information should contact PC Simon Johnson at the Force Operations Support Team (FOST) in Rubery on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident reference 700-S-110513.
