ARTISTIC youngsters put their creative skills to good use when they made a mosaic for their school.

Stourport’s Burlish Park Primary School pupils worked with Bristol-based mosaic artist David Bowers to make the “masterpiece”.

Burlish recently got the goahead for a new school to be built on the site in Windermere Way and the mosaic will be part of the new building.

Earlier in the year, the school won an art competition, funded by Worcestershire County Council’s arts department, for pupils to work with an artist to produce an outdoor piece of artwork..

Roz Subert, Year Six teacher, who organised the event, said: “All the children in school, along with parents and grandparents, got involved in sketching their initial ideas about what makes Burlish Park special to them.

“Eight children from Years Five and Six were chosen to pull all the ideas together and come up with the final design, which was then made into the mosaic.”

Rebecca Mauger, Year Five teacher, added: “In total, more than 300 children took part in putting the mosaic together, with lots of staff having a go too.

“The final masterpiece, which consists of three large panels, is a credit to all the children and adults who were involved.”
