A DISABLED woman has proved that a wheelchair is no barrier to participating in exercise after winning a Wyre Forest Sports Award.
Samantha Leake, who had a career path planned as a Swimming and Gym Instructor before suffering an illness when she was 19-years-old, took home the award for Disability Sportsperson of the Year.
After finding herself isolated due to her disability, Sam took a proactive approach life by joining an exercise class, bowling club, drama group and wheelchair dancing group, which she describes as her freedom.
Organisers of the awards said Sam’s determination, her battle through painful procedures to reach her goals, and her attitude display everything an athlete needs to win.
