GOLF: A 90-strong field came out to honour Tom Straughton during Cleobury Mortimer’s President’s Day competition.
Luke Brittain found it tough going but really found form on the final nine to score a nett 32 and take the nine-hole trophy.
Jem Jones and John Gaskell both had excellent 18 holes but both came unstuck on the fifth of Deer Park.
Jones took a six and Gaskell five-putted to also take a six on the par three.
This meant Graham Brittain, who shot a very steady nett 66, won the 18-hole prize on countback.
Sara Pain won the ladies’ contest, finishing one clear of Amy Millward.
The trophy that everyone wanted was for 27 holes and Paul Liggins recorded a nett score of 98 to finish seven under and take the title, which was well below the level score of 105.
